Also known as the “Human Boa Constrictor”, Tucker popularized the snakehips dance in 1920s Harlem. Ella Fitzgerald, who started as a dancer said, “I idolized Snakehips.” She was constantly studying and practicing his serpentine moves. “They used to tease me and call me Snakehips Ella,” she said.
